How confident do you feel about your ability to identify claims in a text? What was the easiest part of today's activity, and what did you find challenging? Explain how today's lesson helped you better understand the difference between a claim and other statements an author might make.

Prompt Response:  I feel good about my power to identify claims. Reading the article and highlighting information in certain colors in a way I could understand helped a lot. Since I was here the day prior and I had to help my self understand the different types of claims, which wasn't too challenging but did go into some of my classwork. While reading the article and completing the assignment I understood the different claims, especially because of how invested I was into the article. The author made great points and I enjoyed reading the opposing opinion as well. Summary: In class we read an article and identified claims. Reflection:   I enjoyed the assignment and the article was very interesting. It helped me understand claims better and put them to sentences.

If you could change one rule at school, at home, or in society, what would it be? Using a claim of policy, make an argument for why that rule should change, using at least two reasons to support your claim.

Prompt Response:  If I could change a rule in schools, I would change the phone ban. I understand the reasoning behind it, but the way they are enforcing it tends to make students want to use their phones more. Students should be able to use their phones during lunch, after completing all their work, and after the teacher is done teaching. Students feel more persuaded to use their phones just because they aren't allowed too, and when teachers take them it creates an issue, which becomes an even bigger problem than how it started. I'm not saying students should be allowed to use their phone whenever they feel like it, but issuing a ban is a bit excessive and isn't going to stop students from using their phones regardless. Summary: I was absent!!!! Reflection:

Think about a time when someone challenged your opinion or told you that you were wrong. What was the disagreement about, and how did you defend yourself? Did you change their mind, or did they change yours?

Prompt Response:  A time someone challenged my opinion would be during class we were having a calm debate about if we preferred group projects or not. I expressed I felt better when I work alone, especially if it's a project. Group assignments during class aren't bad, but I feel like when it's a project people tend to depend on the other group members that are more invested, or care more about their grade. My classmate understood where I was coming from, but argued that group assignments can still be helpful, because some people are willing to have their group members help them understand what they are doing to complete the assignment/project. Summary: In class today we wrote notes over the topic Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Reflection:  We practiced identifying rhetorical language, and explaining how they correlate with the ads.

Describe a time when someone’s words had a lasting impact on you.

Prompt Response:  My teacher from last year told me I overthink and tend to self sabotage myself. This stuck with me because I do this with everything; school, cheer, work, my personal life, etc. I try my best to stay focus but the thought of getting lost stressing me out before I complete the task. I try to get things done as quick as possible and control my emotions, but when everything mixes it's very hard to clear my mind. Summary: I wasn't in class due to the pep rally! Reflection

Today, you had the opportunity to express yourself through poetry. Reflect on your creative writing process. What did you find most enjoyable or challenging about turning your thoughts into a poem? Did this assignment change the way you think about poetry or creative writing? Explain your experience

Prompt Response:  I didn't really enjoy the writing process of a poem. It overwhelmed me even before knowing the assignment was due at the end of class. Writing a poem is difficult and trying to implement certain figurative language made it a lot more stressful. I tried touching on different topics, I tried writing about cheer, or love from a broken persons point of view but I struggled tremendously. Summary: In class we wrote a poem in a timely manner, while attaching figurative language. Reflection:  I learned about how much patience is needed to complete a writing assignment such as this one. I feel like I could complete an assignment as such completely with time and a clear idea of what I am interested in writing about.

Write about a moment when you had to step out of your comfort zone.

Prompt Response:  One of my favorite moments of when I had to step out of my comfort zone is when I had my first football game as a varsity cheerleader. it was my first year cheering and I was so excited. I had waited since I was in 8th grade to do cheer but the game was so nerve racking. The stands were packed, and it was especially scary when it was my turn to call a cheer. Summary: We worked on an assignment about "Constantly Risking Absurdity". Reflection:  I learned how to understand a poem. I also learned how to describe the meaning of certain quotes in a poem.

Talk about a time when you had to write a poem, whether it was for an assignment, event, or special occasion. What was the writing process like for you, and were you proud of the finished product?

Prompt Response:  I have never written a poem, but one of my favorite poem's would be "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou. The poem was inspiring and powerful, it made me think about overcoming challenges. Reading the poem helped me understand poetry and it's powerful ways of expressing emotions and ideas, with different methods.  Summary: In class, we read the poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity". We reread the poem constantly, while carefully going over the meaning. Reflection:  I learned that you can see different point of views of a poem. This poem spoke a lot about mental challenges and the risks of daily life.
